California Wage & Hour Laws

California wage and hour laws require employers to pay workers for overtime hours when they have worked more than 8 hours in a workday or more than 40 hours in a workweek. Overtime pay is one and a half times the employee’s regular wages. Employers must pay wages at least twice per calendar month, as well as establish a regular payday. Employers must give overtime wages no later than the regular payday following the period in which the worker earned overtime. In the event of job termination, the employer must pay the worker all overdue wages (including any accrued vacation days) immediately.
